Imam Who Saved Finsbury Park Terrorist From Harm Called A Hero

An imam calmed crowds and protected the suspect from angry crowds, following this morning’s attack near a mosque in Finsbury Park. He’s being called a hero.

One man has died and 10 people were injured after a man mounted the pavement and ploughed his van into pedestrians, mostly made up of worshippers who had just left the mosque.

The driver of the van, a 48-year-old man, was held down by members of the public until police arrived and placed him under arrest.

Footage of the man’s arrest can be seen here:

People at the scene could be seen and heard to be getting angry as the police arrived to take the man into custody, however, the imam and several others, asked for people to remain calm.

Metropolitan Police confirmed earlier this morning that the incident was being treated as a terrorist attack.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan took to social media to urge people to stay calm and vigilant. He wrote: “We don’t yet know the full details, but this was clearly a deliberate attack on innocent Londoners, many of whom were finishing prayers during the holy month of Ramadan.

“While this appears to be an attack on a particular community, like the terrible attacks in Manchester, Westminster and London Bridge, it is also an assault on all our shared values of tolerance, freedom and respect.

“The situation is still unfolding and I urge all Londoners to remain calm and vigilant. Please report anything suspicious to the police, but only call 999 in an emergency.

“The Met have deployed extra police to reassure communities, especially those observing Ramadan.”

People took to social media to praise the Imam for his actions including Britain’s beloved author, J.K. Rowling:

And many are calling him a hero too:
